Fish like you always have – Feel the bite like you never have !

Building top of the line custom fishing rods for the tournament angler.

When I started fishing Bass tournaments, I realized that most tournament anglers like myself just wanted the lightest most sensitive rod they could get their hands on. They didn’t care for fancy butt wraps, heavy wooden reel seats and bling from tip to butt. They didn’t want the extra weight. Makes since right? Why pay top price for the lightest modulus blank on the market and then weight it down with fancy butt wraps and heavy components. Those rods have a place in the custom rod world  but they are just not practical for the tournament angler.

Fishing rod components continue to improve each year, mostly because the industry demands it. Every year the rods are getting lighter and lighter. The rod manufacturers are taking many of the custom rod builder’s techniques and introducing them into their factory built rods. It does take some time, but when they realize it’s a much-improved way of building rods they put them into production. Take the split rear grip for instance; custom builders have been using this method for many years but you only started seeing them on factory rods in the past several years.

I  custom build my rods with the tournament angler at mind, using only the best materials and techniques in the rod-building world today. Most anglers know what they want when shopping for a custom rod. Technique specific rods are a standard for Bass fishing. You no longer have to settle for a med-heavy power rod and use it for multiple tasks. Now you have a choice when you are trolling down a bank and you see a lay down, you simply reach down and pick up your Senko rod or your Shakeyhead rod or your Jerkbait rod. You need to have all these, just like the Auto technician needs his specialty tools. Sure he can tear down a engine with a adjustable wrench and a pair of pliers - he won’t be efficient, but he can do it.

Your time on the water is valuable, be efficient!  If there’s money on the line or if you are just fun fishing, it only makes sense. Have you ever caught too many fish?

Do yourself a favor, if you have never had the pleasure of fishing a Thompson’s Custom Rod, now is the time. I know it will make you a more efficient angler, increase your confidence, and help fill your livewell.

We use only the best rod blanks!
